Jan Gerritszoon van Muijs served the Admiralty of the Noorderkwartier. He was born in Hoorn on 17 April 1636. He lived until about 1699. He commanded in the Battle of the Texel in 1673, and the operation to take William III to England in 1688. He also fought in the Battles of La Hougue in 1692 and Camaret in 1694. In 1667, he was promoted to Kapitein-ter-Zee. On 26 October 1691, he was promoted to Schout-bij-Nacht. This is from Luc Eekhout's book
